Using chunks of wood destined for firewood, I’ve drilled numerous holes of various dimensions to provide a safe nest site for solitary bees.
Adding a funky roof provides shelter from the weather.
To bee or not to bee?
Solitary bees aren’t just bees that have left the hive and are on their own. There are over 200 species of solitary bees, and as the name implies, they live independently, although they often nest near one another. Unlike social bees, solitary bees don’t produce honey, don’t have a queen, and don’t form hives.
